Electric Generation
Natural gas-fired power is another growth market for Panhandle Energy. We currently serve 27 gas-fired generation facilities totaling over 12,212 megawatts of capacity along the Panhandle Eastern and Trunkline Gas pipeline systems.
Our diverse supply portfolio provides our customers with a variety of reliable and economical sources. We have access to the major natural gas supply regions of the Louisiana and Texas Gulf coasts (including deepwater and deep-shelf supplies), as well as the Midcontinent, Rocky Mountains, and Canadian supply. Our Trunkline LNG facility in Lake Charles, La., provides an additional alternate, reliable supply source with a regasified sendout capability of 1.2 Bcf per day and a peak day deliverability of 1.5 Bcf per day.
We have the operational flexibility and expertise to meet power plant needs. Our staff includes experienced and knowledgeable experts in marketing, operations, engineering and customer service to deal with the special needs of our generation customers. Our flexibility extends to rate structuring, including power and gas indexing.

- Quick Notice Transportation -- Flexible nomination/scheduling procedures for shippers who need to react quickly to flow rate changes.
- Enhanced Firm Transportation -- Provides non-ratable flow in the gas day.
- Gas Parking Service -- Parking and lending to minimize imbalances and penalities.
- Flexible Storage Service -- Allows for customized firm injection and withdrawal rights subject to Panhandle Energy's approval.
- No Notice Service -- Combines transportation and storage services to simplify nominations and imbalance management.
- Flexible Field Zone Firm Transport -- Tailored to enhance gas supply attachment offshore.
- Intraday Gas Parking Service -- Provides intraday swing for shippers using standard IT or FT services.
- Delivery Variance Service -- Provides incremental tolerance for daily scheduling variances.
Panhandle Energy - A Southern Union Company
Southern Union Company, headquartered in Houston, is one of the nation’s leading diversified natural gas companies, engaged primarily in the transportation, storage, gathering, processing and distribution of natural gas. The company owns and operates the nation’s second largest natural gas pipeline system with more than 20,000 miles of gathering and transportation pipelines and one of North America’s largest liquefied natural gas import terminals.
Through Panhandle Energy, Southern Union’s pipeline interests operate more than 15,000 miles of interstate pipelines that transport natural gas from the Anadarko and San Juan basins, the Rocky Mountains, the Gulf of Mexico, South Texas and Mobile Bay to major markets in the Southeast, Midwest and Great Lakes region.
Southern Union Gas Services, with approximately 4,800 miles of pipelines, is engaged in the gathering, transmission, treating, processing and redelivery of natural gas and natural gas liquids in Texas and New Mexico.
Through its local distribution companies, Missouri Gas Energy, PG Energy and New England Gas Company, Southern Union also serves approximately one million natural gas end-user customers in Missouri, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
